What is orthopedic trauma and how it can be treated?

Orthopedic trauma is any severe injury to the bones, joints, and/or tender tissue that is caused by an external source. It could be caused by a road accident, collision, or an unexpected fall, but not always. Trauma can also be caused by overuse. When an injury or traumatic event impacts the bones, joints, or soft tissues, orthopedic Doctor/surgeons are great equipped to take care of the problem.

Treatment options –
In case of a fracture or a serious soft tissue injury, an X-ray, an MRI or a bone scan will be ordered proper away in order to determine treatment. If you do have a fracture or any tissue injury. The injured area is stabilized, and measures to reduce bleeding are taken.

Treatment options are Nonsurgical treatment and Surgical treatment.
Nonsurgical cure –
Non-operative treatment is feasible for some fractures and dislocations. This technique involves the use of splints, casts, braces, and specific devices on the outside of the injury to stabilize the fracture.

Surgical treatment –
Internal fixation is when a orthopedic doctor performs a major surgical procedure on the bone to stabilize it with pins, wires, screws, and plates. Severe injuries might also require more complex surgical procedures including bone grafting, limb lengthening, and complex reconstruction

Recovery
The amount of time it takes to recover from a fracture is decided by the type and severity of the injury. It can take three weeks up to several months for a bone to absolutely heal, and in the worst cases, the bone may never heal completely. However, the pain gets better before healing is complete.
